Dear Fostering Hope family,
In difficult times like these, there are few things as comforting as friends and family. Whether it’s words of encouragement — or a precious roll of toilet paper! – family looks after one another. Our foster families and emancipated young adults are no exception. Although Covid-19 presents some unique challenges to our mission, Fostering Hope is committed to finding ways to support and affirm our families and youth while doing our part to reduce spread of the disease and keep people safe.
Our coordinators are working with their volunteer teams to develop safe ways to serve families and young adults that do not involve personal contact and respect social distancing guidelines as outlined by health authorities. This includes leaving meals on doorsteps, FaceTime chats and video calls, supply runs, and making gifts, cards and crafts for families and kids to enjoy. Certain in-person visits and interactions are being evaluated on a case-by-case basis for families and volunteers to ensure they are consistent with CDC guidelines and safe for those involved.
We are moving all meetings, trainings and gatherings of more than a few people either online or by phone. Fostering Hope will close our physical office to visitors and move to remote working arrangements in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and practice social distancing. If you have an office-related matter, please call or email me directly, or leave us a message. We will continue to check messages remotely.
All of these recommendations will remain in place until further notice, but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to build community and encourage one another during these challenging times. For inspiration, take a look at the Italians singing from balconies. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/03/14/coronavirus-lockdown-italians-are-singing-songs-from-balconies.html
If you are looking for ways to help, consider making a donation online to provide for the emergency needs that are sure to arise for our young adults and families in the coming weeks. Simply leave a note that says “EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE” and we will ensure your gift goes to this purpose. You can make a gift at http://fosteringhopefoundation.org/give
